The Buddha is the highest form of being. The Buddha is not a being. We are not the Buddha. We are just ourselves. Our relationship with our bodies and our minds is the result of our actions and the actions of countless others, but unlike other forms of being, the Buddha is not one of us. He is the Buddha, but he is not like us.
The Buddha’s teachings are supposed to be “the ultimate truth.” These vows are a form of meditation, a method of gaining control of our minds and bodies. It’s a way of getting to know ourselves better, but it’s also the same kind of meditation that someone who is taking a vow to be a monk or a nun may do. It’s the ultimate form of meditation, but it’s not meant to be easy, and it takes time.
