I’ve been living in Florida for over 20 years. I had to sell my home in Georgia. In Florida, I can walk around my home and pick up items with my hands. I can put a shirt on, take it off and put it on, and then put it back on, and then put it on again. I can wash my hands and put my shirt on. This is the best way to do everything.
I don’t know how to put it, but I think we should just stop talking about our homes and just do stuff ourselves. Just like how you can just go buy a new car and just keep driving it until you’re ready to buy a new one, you can just take care of your home in the same way that you will buy it when you’re ready.
My wife and I both have very good habits. We tend to do things on autopilot. We have a really good routine that consists of: Washing our faces, washing our hands, using paper towels, using dish soap, eating breakfast, getting dressed, brushing our teeth, and getting ready to go to bed. I think this is a good practice because we tend to fall into these habits rather than making them a part of our everyday lives.
This works because the same habit keeps us healthy and productive. However, it doesn’t help us feel as though we’re doing something when we’re not. We tend to think that when we don’t have to do something, it means we’re doing something. We’re not. It’s like there’s a little grey area in the way that we relate to our habits.
In reality, we rarely know what we are doing. We like to think that we know what we are doing, that we are like we were before we started. But we dont know what we are doing. It is like we are always in a state of autopilot. We cant say we are doing something, but we know that we are. We dont know that we are not doing something, but we know that we are.
Sometimes the reason we can know what we are doing is because we are doing it. We can always ask ‘why’ and make good use of that. Like why is this going on, why is that happening, why are we doing this? ‘Cause we are always doing it, we are always doing it, we are always doing it. Its just that as we become more aware of what we are doing, we can see that we are not.
The thing is, even though we are always doing something, we can never be sure we are doing it. When we are doing something we are not doing something, we are doing something else. If we are doing something, we are thinking about doing something else. We are doing something and then we go do something else. We may look at what we are doing and say, “I have to do that,” but we are never sure we are doing it.
It’s that disconnect between thinking we’re doing something and actually being doing it that is the problem. That disconnect is made worse when we take a break from doing something to think about something else. For example, we may be eating lunch and then decide that we’re going to walk around the mall for a bit, and we end up spending quite a bit of money. As we do this we are not thinking about the eating, we are thinking about walking.
That’s exactly what it feels like, especially when were really going for something big. Then we have a whole day to catch up on our daily tasks, and we are still thinking about the big idea. We feel a sort of “oh crap, this is going to take longer than I thought.” This is especially true with big projects, but it also happens with everything in life.
We are spending more money, but we might be doing it for less than we expect. We are paying for groceries, but we might be buying the groceries for our entire lives. Its a double whammy of spending money in one way and eating for so long in another.
