When we think about design, we usually think about what people associate with it, like a product or piece of clothing, or how a company or designer makes a statement. But there’s a much more intriguing, less known, and more controversial type of design than what we think of as design. This is the type that takes inspiration from people, places, and things, or is based on a theme or a metaphor.
We’ve been covering menswear design for nearly 20 years now, and our research and experience has taught us that men’s fashion is changing fast. As the design world moves past the “what we want from a dress” phase and into the “what people want from a dress” phase, we’ve seen the beginning of the end for some of the most iconic and recognizable pieces, like the V8 Corset, the Gucci tie, and the Gucci logo.
A trend is when a product or piece of clothing becomes more functional, a bit less “fashion-y”, or just plain less fashion. Weve all seen the trend for the “sexy” pants, or the “toxic” shoes, or the “cool” shoes.
The trend for the sexy pants is one of the most well-known and widely-traveled throughout the fashion industry, but the trend for the toxic shoes is fairly new – it started with the Gucci tie. The Gucci tie is an integral part of the Gucci logo, and the Gucci logo can be found on just about anything, including the tops of our very own t-shirts and hoodies.
The “toxic shoes” trend started on Instagram, where one of the most popular users was just a regular guy who really liked his running shoes and decided to post them on his Instagram every day. There’s a lot of controversy around the fact that the shoes are toxic and why people choose them, and it seems that a lot of people love the shoes so much they spend hours making sure their shoes are a certain color, cut, and fit, only to see them become a point of ridicule.
The real problem with toxic shoes is that they make you look like a child who is wearing them. They are made of leather but look a little like cotton or cloth. They are also made of a very cheap material (often used to make cheap clothing) and could easily be cut with a pair of scissors. The only reason people buy them is because they are made by the same company that makes the cheap clothes they wear.
It’s been said over and over again, but I think it’s an important one: The best way to look cool is to be exactly who you are. And as often as I have heard this, it’s true. If you want to look like a member of the “fashion set” or “geek set” or “pop culture set” you have to dress like them. No one can do it for you. No one can make you look and feel like them.
There is absolutely no way you can make anyone look or feel the way you think they should. The only thing you can do is get them to dress and act the way you think you should and hope that they like you for that.
In the past I’ve been asked to help design some of the most popular menswear collections in New York. But I have since found out that they don’t need my help. The New York Fashion Week has a huge selection of menswear and I’m not sure they need more designers looking at the same stuff.
Thats true, but I just wanted to point out a couple of things. First, if you don’t like the design and you try to make something new then you’re going to hate the first few times. As a designer your job is to create something people want to wear and are willing to pay for. Secondly, the most important thing is to just try things. You don’t need to make a million different designs to be the next hot trend.
