I love theatrical design, and this is my favorite way to incorporate a theatrical flair into your home. You might be familiar with the theatrical style from films like The Hunger Games, or from the TV show, House. The idea is that you can show your home off in a way that evokes a specific mood, and a lot of that is from your décor.
While you can easily make a big-budget theatrical home design, you can also make a more subtle theatrical home design. If you have a dark interior, you might want to choose something more dramatic or theatrical.
In theater, a dark room with heavy drapes can be very dramatic. The same goes for your décor. If you have a dark room with curtains that are open all the way, you might want to keep them closed or blinds drawn. In a theater, the only real lighting is in the dimmest spots.
There’s a big difference between theatrical design and theatrical décor. In theater design, the designer is primarily concerned with lighting, which can be pretty obvious. But in theatrical décor, you can use soft lighting to create the illusion of the space. Another thing we want to do is make sure that the theater is as visually pleasing as it is functionally. We use the same light fixtures, blinds, and curtains we used in the movie theater. We also go through and use our same flooring and ceiling tiles. We use the same furniture, too. For the auditorium, we go through the same process of making sure the seats are comfortable with the same materials and design that we use in the movie theater.
