The Hawaii Design Center is a locally owned educational facility that focuses on the design of affordable homes and businesses in Hawaii. We teach design techniques to educate the public on the benefits of sustainable design and promote the use of locally produced materials and locally grown products.
We’re in the process of opening a retail store where we sell eco-friendly home goods by some of the biggest names in the industry. We’re hoping to be here this summer and have a few exciting things to share next week.
The center is also a place for people to get together and get design-related training. We are also open to serving as a training resource for local government agencies. The center also runs a popular design competition each year through the Hawaii Design Awards.
The Hawaii Design Awards is really a small nonprofit that is the only statewide design competition in the US. The winners each year are judged by the Hawaii Design Awards Foundation, a group of well-known Hawaiian architects and interior designers.
In this year’s event, we awarded two designs to a local organization, the Hawaii Council of Governments. The HCCG is a state agency responsible for public works design and construction. So they have a design competition each year. This one is similar to the Hawaii Design Awards, but instead of submitting their own design, they are submitting a design by a designer from another state.

The design contest is a great way to get a bunch of people from all over the world to do something truly cool. Just think of all the cool stuff that you could do if you had a design competition. That’s what this contest is all about.
