I am a big fan of coin jars! They are something I have always used in my kitchen but with a new kitchen that I just opened last week I have to say, these are a must-have addition! The metal in these jars is a perfect weight for our small kitchen and they are extremely easy to clean. Since they are not designed to hold food, the only thing I would recommend is to wash them and then put them back.
I also love these jars because they are small, sleek, and they are totally worth the price. I don’t know how many people are thinking about using them as jewelry, but the jars are very chic and they are a great way to get a bit of shine on your table or counter. They are also a great way to keep small items in your kitchen.
I recently had a conversation with a friend about how, in modern kitchens, there are so many options for storing things that they are practically begging you to use them. We were talking about how the kitchen can be a storage area for a lot of different things: food, pots and pans, etc. In our own home that is an easy statement to make. Since I was also talking about jars and lids, I decided to put them to the test.
I’m not sure where this idea of using jars came from, but I think it has to do with the fact that you can make a really beautiful and creative kitchen using jars. When we were in college, two of my best friends and I went to a pottery studio to find out more about how to make your own pottery. After we got back to our apartment, we made a potter’s wheel that used jars and we had a ball.
After we finished our potters wheel, we decided to try and make a jar ring using the same technique. We used a clay jar that we had for making necklaces, and filled it with water and a pinch of salt. Then we placed the jar in water and let it sit for about an hour. We used a piece of fabric to cover the jar and hung the other end of the fabric on the wall.
The whole idea was to make an old-fashioned jewelry-making ring with the technique used for making necklaces. I had no idea what a coin jar was until I saw the video, so I was just like, “Huh, that’s a coin jar…”. They’re the perfect size for the smallest bit of jewelry you can make, and the ring has a bit of a “snob” feel to it, so it is very fun to wear.
