The idea is that you can arrange the different parts of the ring in different ways and it will look like it is made up of different pieces. So it wouldn’t be such a good idea to put the Celtic knotwork rings in the rings on your engagement rings.

I think you can make a nice Celtic knotwork ring with a basic piece of the ring set in the middle. I have a couple of sets of these rings that my dad made me. Of course, if you get into shape-making in your life, you can make a really nice Celtic knotwork ring.
Some people think you can just use plain old string and some other things to make a Celtic knot, but I have an even more practical suggestion. If you have a small ring that you can put together in a few different ways, you can make a Celtic knot with a small ring and a simple method. You can use a crochet hook, even if it’s got only a couple of rows of eyelets on it, because you know you can get a nice loop in the center.
