Block design is a trend in recent years that is in vogue. It’s a way of designing a space in which the proportions of the elements, like windows, doors, and walls, allow for maximum light and air flow. The key here is to give the space as much room as possible without violating the laws of physics.
A good example of this is the “no square footage rule” in the UK. In general a lot of people, especially in the UK, are concerned about square footage in their homes. They’re aware that if they don’t have enough space, it can be a detriment to their comfort. But when you design a home that fits the lifestyle, you’re more likely to have enough square footage that you can actually live in, without sacrificing any comfort.
The other way this is done is by allowing as much space as possible, but not letting the room to grow too much. This is also known as “aspect ratio”, where the space you take up is how much space you have around you, which is why big isnt always better.
In homes, if you do not have enough square footage, you are forced to make room for the furniture you have, which is a hassle. But if you’re allowed to expand without breaking the rules, then you’re not limited by the space you’ve been allotted. You can move the furniture around, but you can only take up so much space.
The reason we need room to expand is so we can fit more furniture, but there’s a second, more important reason why we need room to expand: so we can fit more stuff inside the room. If we can’t fit more stuff in, we’ll end up with too much stuff in the room, which is obviously a hassle.
The concept of a “block design” is a big one. It’s not so much that a room is “full-sized,” but rather a block of space that is wide enough to contain so many objects that it could be considered “full-sized” were it not for the fact that we can only fit so many objects in it.
The way that we structure our rooms helps us to decide what objects we need and how many we need. For example, we have a number of different types of couches but in our main bedroom it is a queen size bed that we can fit in, but in the other spaces we have different beds, and in the bathrooms we have different size toilet seats, so when its time to do something in the bathroom we need to be able to think about how many of each.
It’s not just that we want to be big. It’s also that we want to have a certain number of objects that we need. In our rooms, our beds and couches and tables are the things that we need. In the bathroom, we have the toilet seat, the bathtub, and the sink.
A good part of that is because the rest of the world is doing it too. This whole idea of planning out our bathroom space is something that has been around since the earliest days of home design. If we want a bathroom that is big enough to fit the toilet seat, and yet small enough to fit the toilet seat in the bathtub, then we’re going to need to think about how big the toilet seat is in the bathtub.
