dma has actually been around for a while. It was originally built as a video player that was able to show a video format that was not possible to show with another video player. We at Arkane Labs actually spent a good chunk of our development time on this and we did a lot to make this player as customizable as possible.
A video format that you cannot show with another video player is the video format we at Arkane Labs call AVI. This is because most video formats are not available in another video player.
Because of this, we needed to make our new player a video player that was able to play AVI at a different quality, like you could do with a DVD. To do this, we needed a way to tell our player to “play video file AVI” so that it would be able to show it in a different quality than the video player would show.
This is why we made dma. We wanted to make a video player that could play video files from other video players. So we needed a way to tell the video player to play video file AVI but let our player play video file H.264 so that it would be able to show it in a different quality than the video player would show.
The first problem is that H.264 video files don’t play well in browsers. This is because the H.264 codec is designed to use the hardware’s hardware decoder.
