Oprah Winfrey is a media mogul, actress, and philanthropist.
She is also the world’s most powerful celebrity according to Forbes magazine. When you think of her what words come to mind? Inspirational? Charismatic? Successful? These are all great qualities that Oprah shares with other notable Halo ship names like The Spirit of Fire and The Forward Unto Dawn. In this blog post we will explore 15 things Oprah has in common with these Halo ships!
Number: 15
Bullet Point: Oprah is the world’s most powerful celebrity according to Forbes magazine. She shares this characteristic with other notable Halo ship names like The Spirit of Fire and The Forward Unto Dawn.
A few other points that share similarities are that she has a net worth over $20 billion, was born in Mississippi, spent her childhood on her family farm, studied speech at Tennessee State University, hosted American Idol for 25 seasons from 1988-2010! Although she did not win an Emmy Award until 2002 when she starred as Queen Guinevere Jones in the TV miniseries King Arthur (2001), now Winfrey holds 17 Emmys which makes her one of the all time greats! Her Academy Awards win for best actress is a notable achievement given that she won it in her first ever film debut!
Bullet Point: Oprah deserves to be remembered as one of the most successful and influential figures of our time.
She has topped lists like “The Most Powerful Women” and “Most Influential People”. The businesswoman, television producer, talk show host, actress, author and philanthropist started out with no formal education but became an American icon who helped shape cultural conversation around diverse topics such as self-empowerment from within oneself (with books like 1986’s ‘What I Know For Sure’), racial equality (through her iconic TV production company Harpo Productions’ shows) or even anti-bullying campaigns. Her trademark
The name ‘Oprah’ means “sandalwood” in Hebrew. It has been suggested that the ship names are allusions to their descriptions and backstories, though this is not confirmed by 343 Industries. Halo Reach’s Pillar of Autumn was named for a song on an album called “The Ballad of John Henry,” which tells the story of a road builder who died with his hammer in hand after competing against steam drills during construction. In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was born from sea foam and rose up from Posideon’s semen while he slept next to her mother Demeter (the goddess of agriculture). Her name translates as “foam born” or “lady from the sea.”
Oprah’s birth date is october 29th, 1954 and her astrological sign is libra
Halo: Reach’s Pillar of Autumn was launched on November 17th 2552 – a year before she would have been born.
Omega said that humans are “the culmination of our evolution,” in contrast to Elites who he described as “an unfortunate mutation.” This could be seen an allusion to what many consider to be Winfrey’s role as a pioneer for women in media.
Omega also says that their magnetic clamps can only hold human ships together for about 100 years, when they will become so brittle with age that one touch will cause them
Oprah is the female equivalent of “Horus” from Egyptian mythology.
Horus was a god that represented order, government and law. She also shares similarities with Osiris, who was associated with resurrection and fertility. These names are fitting for her given her ability to resurrect things like daytime TV programming in the 1980s, as well as bring new life into being through The Oprah Winfrey Show’s audience participation segment “Share Your Story.”
One of my favorite aspects about Halo ships is their human name meanings – it gives them an extra layer of meaning that I really appreciate when playing. And after reading through all 15 qualities shared by our newest ship class namesake and global icon Oprah Winfrey? Well, let’s just say I’m more excited than ever to get my hands on that sweet, new Warthog.
That said, it’s not like the names were a perfect match from day one all of the ships in this class share qualities with different deities before they got their final name. For example:
Osiris was originally called “Horus” who represents order and law; while Helios was first named after Valerian god of sleep and dreams (just think about how nice those nap pods are!). The similarity between these two gods is that both specialize in what we might call “eternal rest.” But there’s no confusing them now! Just as our ships have been given distinct identities through their human namesake meanings, so too do Egyptian deities such as Osiris and Helios.
Today, we’re going to take a look at some of the qualities our ships share with various deities–both old (Osiris) and new (Nemesis). Let’s start by looking at one of my all-time favorite Warthogs: Hermes!
Nemesis: This Warthog is the perfect name for a ship that will go head to head with our enemies and, if need be, take them out! It’s also fitting because it means “to give what one deserves.” In Greek mythology, Nemesis was the goddess of vengeance who would punish those who got too big for their britches–you know, like some Covenant Elite we all know 😉 What can I say? She gets me every time (with laughter). Osiris: The Osiris-class is an older model than the more recent Halcyon-class. It’s also a little slower, but it has more turrets and better shields than the Halcyon!
