The Aldmeri Dominion is a union of the Altmer, Bosmer and Khajiit peoples.
These three races each have their own history and culture, but share many similarities. In fact, they share a naming convention! In this blog post, we will discuss 11 things that the media hasn’t told you about Redguard names.
11. Redguards have a naming convention that is very similar to their Aldmeri Dominion counterparts, the Altmer and Bosmer peoples. When reading through various books of history written by Elves (Altmers) on the subject of Tamrielic culture, we find out about how common it was for parents in these civilizations to give their children names consisting of “prefixes” followed by one or more suffixes. The prefix indicated what social class they belonged to while the suffix would symbolize some accomplishment or attribute such as bravery or faithfulness.

Redguard names are unique in Tamriel because of the influence their culture has on them
The name is tied to a person’s birth, so what you’re called depends on when and where you were born “S’rath” (as pronounced with the Elvish accent) simply means “birth” It is common for people from Hammerfell not to use surnames or family names unless they come from high nobility. They identify themselves by saying who their mother was instead. This may also be true if someone comes from one of the nomadic tribes which roams across northern Hammerfell as well.
Also, there are some villages that have been around since before recorded time began in Tamriel, and those places don’t use surnames either. Some Redguard names are more than just the person’s given name – they’re a combination of the person’s mother or father’s personal name with their own “Shezarr” is an example of this type of naming convention; it means “Child born at dawn.” The Shezarra style also includes nicknames for children: Razza (“child”), Mazza (“little child”) , Zazzazhah(“young one”)

You don’t have to be an Elf or a Nord to find your true name. The centuries-old practice of Redguard naming has been found in various regions, including Hammerfell and Cyrodiil. In fact, at least one city in Hammerfell is named after the tradition: Da’raa Juhkrii (which means “finding my identity” in old Alik’r). Redguards take their names from history’s heroes, legacies that they hope will live on through them for generations to come. What does this mean? It can depend on who you ask! Some people are proud to carry the legacy of heroic figures like A’dal and Horiel while others find it embarrassing.
In A’dal, a famous Redguard hero from the First Era who became part of the Blades as their first non-elf member (he was also Morrowind’s only Redguard). Alik’r warriors see him as an inspiration and namesake to this day In Horiel, another legendary figure in both Hammerfell and Cyrodiil for his role in taking back Castle Kvatch with no more than 230 men during what has been called “the Battle of Old.” To this day, he is still regarded by some historians as one of Tamriel’s most successful generals ever.
A few other notable heroes are: Tavennae Tabardanis, who is said to have ridden with the Alessian army against the Colovians in Cyrodiil and later became a clanmother of Clan Tabardanis. Hidarad, an ancient Redguard hero from Yokudan mythology who was one of five heroes that defeated Lorkhaj at Mythic Dawn
An other way you can choose your name is by following these steps:
Choose a first name – this could be anything as long as it’s not already being used by someone else Choose a last name – which should also be something different than what people might recognize Follow up with “of” or “-son” if appropriate The example names below show how this would work
Blah Blah Blah,
Blah blah blah.
The media is so biased and will say anything to get ratings! Don’t believe these lies about the Redguard names controversy. Here are 11 things that they haven’t told you:
Redguards have an unfair disadvantage when it comes to finding jobs in Orsinium because of their name. One only needs to look at Volenfell’s recent article on how a redguard was turned away from being interviewed for a job just because he had red hair – this kind of racism should not be tolerated anywhere but especially not in our own backyard!
What? No one has ever talked about how difficult it can be for someone with a common first name like John or Mary to find a job because of the amount of Johns and Marys? It’s not just about how hard it is for redguards, but also other minority groups. When you have two people with the same name (such as John Smith) one will be forced to give up their identity in order to pursue some kind of career or life goals. This isn’t fair either! Blah blah blah, blah blah blah. To conclude our article on this topic we would like to say: Don’t believe everything you read!
